The MVA Fund celebrated two decades of its flagship Festive Season Road Safety Campaign with a fundraising breakfast held in Windhoek under the enduring theme Xupifa Eemwenyo, “To Save Lives.”
Since its inception in 2005, the campaign has united Namibians in the fight against road crashes during the festive season, promoting responsible driving and community vigilance. Over the past 20 years, it has grown into a powerful national partnership dedicated to reducing preventable road tragedies.
This year’s event raised N$970,000 in direct financial support, alongside generous in-kind contributions from key partners, reinforcing the shared commitment to road safety and victim support. Major donors included the MVA Fund (N$600,000), Namibia Breweries Limited (N$200,000), and FNB Namibia (N$50,000), among others. Media and transport partners such as Radio Energy, NABTA, and Namibia Media Holdings also pledged ongoing support through awareness campaigns and initiatives.
While celebrating 20 years of progress, the Fund highlighted growing concerns on Namibia’s roads. Between January and September 2025, 2,630 crashes were recorded, resulting in 4,271 injuries and 412 fatalities, a 25% increase in deaths compared to 2024. Most fatalities involved male drivers aged 25–44, with pedestrians remaining the most affected group.
“These figures are alarming,” said MVA Fund CEO, Rosalia Martins-Hausiku. “Road safety is not the responsibility of government alone it is a shared national duty. Every avoided crash is a success; every life saved is a victory.”
As Namibia enters another festive season, the MVA Fund calls on all road users to uphold the Xupifa Eemwenyo vision and make this year’s celebrations a time of joy, not loss.
